Jambo! It’s nice to meet you.
Legend has it that Ernest Hemingway was once challenged to write a complete story in only six words, the result being: “For sale: baby shoes, never used.”
Dave Eggers and Hemingway inspired me to put a spin on this classic concept by examining and expressing a life in fewer words than a haiku — the six-word memoir.
“Neo-nomad in sea of wild ideas.”
Many of my past entries chronicle a past reporting trip to the eastern African countries of Ethiopia and Kenya. There, I worked with The Common Language Project (CLP) and Afrikanews.org, two online publications committed to covering under-reported international stories, to produce multimedia stories on water scarcity. At the time, To See A World in a Grain of Sand served as an outlet for my ideas, stories and overall ventilation from the snowy shores of the Hocking to the diverse and distant outskirts of the Nile.
This fall 2009, I graduated from Ohio University School of Visual Communication with a Masters of Arts degree in Multimedia. Since graduation, I have been exploring Northern California and learning about sustainable and organic farming in Sonoma.
